My intention is to create uplifting artwork; using vibrant colors and upbeat images, with themes about the environment, spirit of place, and peace. Many of my recent paintings and mixed media pieces create the feeling of being by the sea, boating, and being at the beach.
The beauty of our earth is reflected in the photos I take. I incorporate them into my mixed media paintings along with found images and objects.
I have a degree in studio art from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst; and began college at George Washington University where art courses took place at the Corcoran Art Museum. I also studied art history and art education. Later I took courses at Art Students League. I also took courses with Miriam Shapiro, Steve Lampasona, Susumu Shingu, Aieda Whedon, and others.
My artwork has been in many exhibits in MA and NY, including group exhibits on the East End; at the Watermill Museum, Southampton Cultural Center, Southampton Town Hall, East End Arts, Jill Lynn Gallery, Elaine Benson Gallery, and Guild Hall Museum. I currently have one mixed media painting in the members show at Guild Hall Museum in East Hampton, one painting at Southampton Cultural Center Theater, and seven paintings at Bourghese Vineyard Art Gallery in Cutchogue, NY.
I was director/curator of Shelter Rock Art Gallery in Manhasset, NY for two years and organized 22 exhibits. After that I organized and curated art exhibits for Sea Cliff Arts Council at DGSotheby in Sea Cliff, NY.
I have been making art my whole life, and grew up going to NYC museums. My mother was an art teacher in Port Washington, and president of NY art teachers. After college I continued painting while raising my children. I currently have an art studio in Southampton, NY and take photos while sailing in Sag Harbor.
As a creativity coach I encourage others to begin or move forward with art or writing or any creative project. I also teach creative painting and sculpture to individuals and small groups of all ages. We all have enough stress in our lives so I want to balance that by adding positive imagery and good feelings to our world and our lives. As an artist and creativity coach I choose to make art that feels good to create and to look at.
